Postdoctoral Postion in Applied Dynamical Systems - Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics of the University of Houston has a one-year postdoctoral position in the field of Applied Dynamical Systems, pending budgetary approval.  Special consideration will be given to applicants with some experience in mathematical neuroscience. This position will include one course per semester teaching.  Salary will be $42,000 for 9 months, plus2 months of summer support, with some funds available to attend conferences. There is a possibility that the position can be extended to a second year.

Postdoctoral Position In Partial Differential Equations - Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Houston seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position starting in July of 2008 pending funding approval.

The department seeks applicants with excellent research potential in the area of partial differential equations. Applicants are required to have completed their Ph.D. by the time of their appointment, but no earlier than July 1, 2004. Postdoctoral Fellows normally teach one course per semester and are expected to participate in the research activities of the department. The postdoctoral appointment is renewable for a total of up to two years, assuming satisfactory performance in research and teaching.

Applications are welcome at any time, but the review process will begin on February 22, 2008. To ensure full consideration, applicants are urged to have a curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, sample publications or preprints, and three letters of recommendation (at least one of them should address teaching ability) in by this date.

Graduate Assistant - Department of Mathematics and Computer Science

The Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science will hire at least two GA’s who will explore the possibilities of using the   virtual world Second Life to:

  1.  Build a virtual work environment used in teaching college level courses, including, but not limited to computational science and mathematics.
  2. Create University infrastructures (both at the department and college level) and student support in second life. Students familiar with the programming concept of Second Life are particularly encouraged to apply. We are looking for students who can think outside the box, have a taste for graphics and work well with a team.

This work may bring you to participate to conferences, and will help you build your CV.

These positions will be available for at least one year, and will be hosted by both the Department of Mathematics and the Department of   Computer Science.

Tenure track position (Assistant or Associate level) - Department of Mathematics (New)

The Mathematics Department at the University of Houston expects to fill two positions over the next two years. One of these positions will be at the assistant tenure track level, and one of these positions will be at either the assistant tenure track level or the tenure associate level.  Applicants are invited for one position that will begin as early as the fall semester of 2008, and one position that will begin as early as the fall semester of 2009.  Mathematicians from all research areas are welcome to apply, with the primary areas of interest being individuals working in dynamical systems, mathematical biology, approximation theory and numerical partial differential equations. We are particularly interested in mathematicians who can help foster collaborative efforts with existing research teams in our Department and the University at large, and whose research interests will continue to foster collaborative interactions at local Universities, as well as with Industry and the Medical Center.

Successful applicants at the associate level will be expected to fill leadership roles in the department. They should have an established research program, a history of success in attracting external funding, experience supervising graduate students, and strong communication and teaching skills.
