Admission Requirements
Admission requirements for the Mathematics Program are the same as the university admission requirements. Applications can be downloaded from the UH Admissions Web Site.

Mathematics students must have overall GPAs of at least 2.0. Students whose GPAs in mathematics courses fall below 2.5 may be advised to consider changing majors.

Students who do not initially declare mathematics as their major must submit a petition to the Department of Mathematics if they decide later to change their major to mathematics.

Minoring in Mathematics
Students who choose to minor in mathematics must complete the general requirements for a minor as well as a minimum of 18 semester hours of mathematics courses, of which at least 9 must be advanced (3000-4000 level). Of the 9 or more advanced hours, at least 3 semester hours must be at the 4000 level. Some courses may not be applied to a major or minor in mathematics. They are listed in the Undergraduate Studies Catalog. A minor plan must be approved and placed on file in the Department of Mathematics before graduation. Students are encouraged to do this by the time they are classified as juniors.

Prerequisite Checking
The Mathematics Department is now strictly enforcing the prerequisites for its undergraduate courses. Students who do not have the prerequisites will be dropped by the course instructor. Please check the current catalogue for prerequisites before you attempt to enroll in an undergraduate mathematics course.
