Lab Policy

Missed Labs/Quizzes/Homeworks and Course Grades

There are no make-up quizzes, but the lowest few of these grades will be dropped.

Late homework was accepted for section 12.1. W.e.f. 1-29-2008, homework turned in late will not be graded.

On a given day, turn in only the homework that is due that day. You will be responsible for turning in homework that is due later even if you have already turned it in when it was not due. So for instance, if homework is collected for only 12.1 and you turn in 12.1, 12.3 and 12.4, you will still have to turn in 12.3 and 12.4 when they become due.

COURSE GRADES: course grade is approximately based on a total score of 700 points consisting of quizzes (100 points), homework (100 points), three semester tests (100 points each), and a final exam (200 points).

Attendance is mandatory. Roll will be taken in class and in lab; students with bad attendance patterns tend to lose their grip on the course, and plummet or drop out. Students who miss more than four classes in the semester without excuse will be penalized at a rate of up to 1 % of their grade for each unexcused absence after the fourth absence.

The original and more complete version of this policy may be found at Professor David Blecher's Homepage

Interesting Fact: The current year, 2008, is a leap year, with 29 days in February. February 2008 has five Fridays - it starts and ends on a Friday. Between 1904 and 2096, leap years with same day of week for each date repeat every 28 years which means that the last time February had 5 Fridays was in 1980 and next time will be in 2036.
