Chaotic Quilts

Chaotic Quilts provide examples of symmetric chaos on the torus. We represent the attractors as tiling patterns on the plane. Most of the images we present here may also be found in the book Symmetry in Chaos.

This images were both composed for a Fractals Calendar, produced by Daryl Hepting. In the event, the second image, Square Chaos was chosen for the calendar. The first image is called Surfing.

This image will also be used in the Fractals Calendar and is called twisted symmetries. It was produced using completely different mathematical methods from those used to construct the other chaotic quilts shown in this gallery.
