| Abstract |

Optimal degeneration problems in Kahler geometry include the
study of Kahler-Ricci solitons and extremal metrics, which are generalization
of Kahler-Einstein metrics and constant scalar curvature Kahler metrics.
I will introduce these problems and survey recent results around them.
