How I became a Data Scientist
March 21, 2024
4:00pm PGH 646
Abstract
|
|
This talk will describe my journey to becoming a data scientist as a
mathematics major. I will discuss my current roles as a professional
mathematician employed by a nonprofit where I work with large language
models and optical character recognition. I will also shed light on the
career-paths I took since undergraduate, including various positions I have
held with a BS or MS in Math. Lastly, I will show some examples of what my
research in mathematical ecology consisted of at the master and
undergraduate levels.
Faculty from the UH Math Department will answer questions about research/REUs/etc.
Pizza will be served.
Colloquium sponsored by the NSM Dean's office DUSEM grant
