MATH  2311  - Spring 2014
Opt Out Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE STUDENT FOR OPT-OUT

The phrase "exempt yourself from the final" is equivalent to "opt out of the final".

STEP 1. TEACHER EVALUATION
You must complete teacher evaluation before you can opt-out. Towards the end of the semester a teacher evaluation link will appear in CourseWare after you log in. Watch carefully for this link and complete teacher evaluation BEFORE OPT-OUT. If you wait until the day of opt-out, you may experience delays.

STEP 2. DROPPING
Note: Dropping will happen only after opt-out starts (see step 4 below).

STEP 3. PRACTICE TO PREPARE FOR OPT-OUT
Log in to CourseWare. Go to your course. Go to the grades page. Click the link at the upper left which says "Click here to see your letter grade". This will give you the letter grade calculator. Practice this during the semester, so you'll be ready for opt-out (see step 4 below).

STEP 4. PROCEDURE FOR OPT-OUT
Opt-out will be April 30 2014 and May 1 2014. During this time period go to the letter grade calculator as in step 3 above. If you have a projected grade of at least B (80.0), there will be a link (upper left) allowing you to opt-out of the final. Follow the instructions carefully after you click on the link -- there are several subsequent pages. On the last page there will be a confirmation code-- you MUST record this confirmation code, either with pen and paper or by emailing it to yourself. This will be your ONLY CHANCE to record the confirmation code. If you don't have the confirmation code, your opt-out is not guaranteed. Your instructor DOES NOT need the code, it's for you to keep only. Do not email the code to your instructor.
