The 38th annual Texas Partial Differential Equations Conference will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 28-29 in the PGH building of the University of Houston main campus. Talks will begin on Saturday morning and the conference will end early on Sunday afternoon. All talks will be in rooms in the PGH building that houses the department at UH. View conference schedule for more information.
In keeping with tradition, the conference will have no registration fee and no principal speakers. All talks will be 20 minutes in length. We particularly welcome speakers who are new to the Texas area and/or recent doctorates who may be seeking positions. Those wishing to speak should submit a title and short abstract by Friday, March 14th to txpde@math.uh.edu. The submissions deadline may close early if all the possible time slots are filled.
Information about the department may be found at: http://www.mathematics.uh.edu. Information about faculty research interests in PDEs may be found at Research Areas. If you know of students with a masters degree in mathematics who may be interested in pursuing a doctorate in PDE or applied mathematics at the University of Houston, please let them know about this meeting and let us know about their interest.
Coffee, drinks and some food will be available on the 6th floor of PGH each morning from 8.30am until the talks start. There will be coffee breaks each morning and afternoon. On Saturday a buffet lunch will be provided on the sixth floor of the PGH building. There are a number of restaurants and bars in walking distance from the department.
The UH student association is hosting an event called "Frontier Fiesta" based around the New TDECU football stadium on the west side of the UH campus. We recommend that visitors to our conference park on the East side of campus near the engineering building or the Campus recreation center. It should be easier to enter and exit away from the Frontier Fiesta. You may park anywhere that has open gates and no handicapped or 24/7 no parking signs.
The University of Houston main campus is about two miles south of downtown Houston West of the Gulf Freeway I45. A map of campus may be found at http://www.uh.edu/maps/ The PGH building is in the center of campus opposite the M.D. Anderson library. Weekend visitors may park in any surface lot with an open gate - but avoid places that are marked reserved, handicapped etc. There also are parking garages that will charge for parking.
Visit city of Houston and local transportation using Metro for more information.
The University of Houston web-site is at http://www.uh.edu. It includes information about directions for getting to the university and the PGH building.
Airlines serve Houston via Bush Intercontinental Airport and the William P. Hobby Airport. Hobby Airport is smaller, closer to the meeting venue and to the hotels listed on our hotels page. We strongly recommend making your hotel reservations early. The weather in Houston is notoriously unstable (especially in the Spring), but it is not extreme. Normally, it should be between 60°F and 80°F. Here is up-to-date information about the weather in Houston.
We have reserved a block of 15 rooms at the Wyndham Houston Medical Center for March 27 and 28. The rate is $99 per night + 17% tax for a Deluxe Suite with Kitchenette. To reserve a room call Jessica at 713-577-1235 and mention the Texas PDE Conference. You should do this by Thursday February 26.
