Math 2433

MATH 2433 Online - Spring 2015 - (lecture section 15546, lab section 15547)

Since this is an online class there are certain special requirements:

You must have access to a computer and a fast internet connection. Broadband, Cable and DSL connections are the best for this. You will need to install Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1 or higher which is available for free from http://www.adobe.com. You will need access to a printer, scanner or camera so that you can complete your written homework and turn it in electronically. Alternatively, you can use a free writing software and a writing tablet to work with the homework directly on your computer.

Java must be up to date on your computer. Before the start of the semester, make sure you can log on successfully to the online classroom. If you have any difficulties, see Blackboard Collaborate Help.

How the class works: Each week there will be 2-4 short lecture videos to watch. Thursday nights (from 5 to 7:30 pm), there will be a live online lecture session. During the live session, I will summarize the topics for the week and work extra examples. You will be able to ask questions during this session too. There will be a set of 5 EMCF questions given in the live lecture session (due on Sundays). If you cannot attend the live session, it will be recorded and notes will be posted. There will be two online recitation session options every week. You are required to attend one of those two recitation sessions. Each recitation session will have a set of EMCF questions for you to answer. There are also two MatLab sessions that will discuss how to use technology to answer some of the class homework questions. This session will also have some EMCFs for you to answer. You will have until Sunday of each week to submit the corresponding EMCF answers on www.casa.uh.edu.

Recitation sessions:(2 options*)
Option 1: Monday 8-9:30 pm
Option 2: Friday 1:30-3pm

MatLab Recitation sessions:(2 options*)
Option 1: Tuesday 7-8:30 pm
Option 2: Thursday 1:30-3pm

*For the lab sessions, you may attend EITHER session for credit. If you cannot do either, you will need to complete the alternate assignment.
