Textbook: Differential Equations by
Polking, Boggess, and Arnold. Pearson, second
edition
We will study ordinary differential equations (ODEs)
as tools for mathematical modeling, including
solution techniques for first- and second-order
equations and initial value problems; Laplace
transforms; numerical methods; systems of ODEs;
solution techniques for linear systems; and (if time
permits) nonlinear systems including qualitative
analysis and bifurcation theory.
The
course
will involve some use of computer software for
numerical study and visualization.
