The
Department
of Mathematics
of the
University
of Houston
offers
an excellent
environment
to study
mathematics
and
its
applications.
We are
the
largest
department
on campus
with
approximately
275
undergraduate
majors,
75 graduate
students
and
8000
students
taking
mathematics
courses
per
semester.
The
faculty
in our
department
is internationally
recognized
for
research
achievement
and
teaching,
and
the
department
has
excellent
computing
resources.

Ranking
of Mathematics
Programs
, our
rank
is the
64th
among
the
138
math
departments
with
PhD
programs
in USA.
The
Department
of Mathematics
offers
programs
leading
to the
degrees
of Doctor
of Philosophy
(Ph.D.),
Master
of Science
in Mathematics
(M.S.M.),
the
Master
of Science
in Applied
Mathematics
(M.S.A.M.),
and
Master
of Arts
in Mathematics
(M.A.M).
The
Department
of Mathematics
publishes
the
Houston
Journal
of Mathematics.
The
department
is the
home
of several
research
institutes,
including
two
centers
funded
by the
National
Science
Foundation
(NSF)
Grand
Challenge
Program.
The
department
is a
member
of the
Texas
Center
for
Computational
and
Information
Science,
which
fosters
research,
education,
and
interaction
with
industry
and
national
laboratories
in the
field
of large-scale
scientific
computing.
The
Institute
for
Theoretical
and
Engineering
Science
offers
an interdisciplinary
program
in nonlinear
dynamics
and
scientific
computing.
The
Keck
Center
for
Computational
Biology
also
offers
educational
programs
in a
multidisciplinary
effort
involving
faculty
members
and
students
from
the
University
of Houston,
Rice
University,
and
the
Baylor
College
of Medicine.
