Stabilized and Variational Multiscale Methods in CFD: A brief history
of ideas, origins, progress and opportunities
November 15, 2023
3:00 pm Commons room, Honor College (2nd floor Anderson Library)
Abstract
|
|
I will present the history and early ideas that provided the
foundations of stabilized and variational multiscale methods in CFD as
we know them today. I will also give some examples of how these have
influenced computational fluid dynamics and provide examples of
advanced applications. Finally, I will describe some contemporary
research problems and open questions.
Key Words: Finite Elements, Isogeometric Analysis, Stabilized
Methods, SUPG, Galerkin Least Squares, Variational Multiscale Method,
Fine-scale Green’s Function, Turbulence Modeling, Monotone Methods
